I was surprised Charlie Manuel didn't win the award and Maddon was the right choice.

By the award's criteria, Eric Wedge is a genius one year, just another schmuck manager the next.

I already shot down your theory, mofo, the first time you said it. Wedge did a great job managing with what he had. The Indians went from last to third WITHOUT Sabathia, Hafner and Victor Martinez. Wedge did a great job managing with what he had. He was no schmuck.

Yet he received no first, second, nor third place votes. That is some fundamentally sound voting system for this award.

Because guys like Guillen and Maddon did better jobs. Still doesn't make him a schmuck. To finish third in that division with all the injuries and trades is quite an accomplishment.

Maddon was a no brainer. As for Piniella? Eh, I can live with it.

The postseason doesn't factor in to the voting.

Really it's hard not to make a case for these two.
But Cito got a couple votes for the Jays. The remake continues.

So why would Charlie Manuel win over big market Lou Piniella?

It shouldn't just automatically the WS managers, which is what you're doing Reefer. Pinella is deserving.

Re: Managers of the Year: Maddon and Piniella

I just said I was shocked it wasn't Manuel. I am not doing anything NYgiantsfan. I never said Piniella wasn;t worthy. I just thought they would go Manuel's way for the way they got in. Manuel was every bit as worthy.
