During last night's Mets v. Nationals game, the Nationals were seen cheering extremely loudly from the dugout. I don't mean after an RBI double, I mean as the pitch was coming in from the mound, as if they were fans. They continued to do it, and it was bad enough that both the SNY announcers(The brilliant Gary Cohen, along with Keith Hernandez)saw it as something that shouldn't even be in little league. Nelson Figueroa said later that they were "cheering like softball girls", and that it was extremely unprofessional, as well as a bit offensive to him.
Personally, I agree with Nelson, and it's not just because I'm a bitter Mets fan. The thing is, the guys that were cheering:
Elijah Dukes: 0 for 12 this year at the plate
Lastings Milledge: supposed to save the team, has a .260 avg and 11 RBI
Nick Johnson: hitting .220 in his return
Ryan Zimmerman: hitting .103 with runners in scoring position.
This team, as Nelson put it, is a last place team. And if this is the only way they can get motivated, then they're gonna end up with a bunch of fastballs upside their heads. I just love how everyone screams at the Mets and Yankees for Joba or Jose Reyes and their fist pumps or high fives...yet when it comes to the Nationals and THEIR bush league BS, everyone jumps on Figueroa calling him a whiner, and saying he's just being a little *****
