Great hitter and especially pinch hitter
He was 49. He would have been 50 in August, and he always said he wanted to play until 50. I loved the guy, he was a great person (I've spoken to him during BP), but it was time. He had lost his ability to turn on a fastball about 4 or 5 years ago, and he lost his ability to go the other way about 2 years ago. I wish him the best of luck in life after baseball.

I remember, I once found a baseball card of his, from 1991. The back of the card called him a "grizzled veteran".
Nine teams in 25 years. Your epitome of a well-traveled vet. But 25 years...I haven't even been a live that long!
Best of luck to him in retirement.
