Jacobs Field will be renamed Progressive Field under terms of an agreement between the Indians and the auto insurance company.

If it brings in enough money for them to upgrade at third base or in left field, then who can complain? Still, it is ironic that the team playing in Progressive Field has a Native American nickname.

What the **** is wrong with sticking with the name that people are used to? I know its a corporate thing but what good does this do? As a Giants fan, I have a very hard time keeping up with what the ballparks name is now. It takes me four tries to get up to date on what it is called (think it is still AT&T). The Cardinals did it right by keeping it Busch Stadium. Leave parks alone so us fans know what everyone is talking about. When you say Jacob's Field, I know exactly what you are talking about. Come June and you say Progressive Field, I won't have a clue as to what you are talking about. Stick with what people know and can understand.

I still call the Rangers' field The Ballpark in Arlington as opposed to whatever they decided to name it.
Naming rights are another source of revenue for the teams. They sign a ridiculously long deal for a ridiculously high $$$ amount and it gives them the ability to get another FA player for a few years.

Didn't Jacobs pass away and/or sell the team? I mean, if it's going to help the product on the field(more money to sign players from advertisers naming stadiums), I'm all for it, for any team.

Since the year 2000, the owner of the Indians has been Larry Dolan, who is the brother of the Knicks' owner, Charles Dolan. If we've learned anything about the Dolans, it's that they care more about the moolah than helping the product on the field.

Yeah, but the Giants name changing had to do with the company who owned the naming rights changing their name a lot.

It sucks right now but you get used to it.

Jack Murphy changing to Qualcomm sucked at first, but then everyone got used to calling it "The Q" and it was quickly forgotten. (by most)

"PetCo Park" is quite arguably one of the worst stadium names in sports, but in the end of the day people don't really care that much about that either.

In the end it's the substance (team and how good the stadium itself is) that matters and not so much the name.
