    Jimmy Rollins = NL MVP

    Holliday robbed

Philadelphia Phillies, Jimmy Rollins, Matt Holliday, Prince Fielder, Major League Baseball - CBSSports.com
NEW YORK -- Jimmy Rollins won the National League MVP award in a close race over Matt Holliday on Tuesday, boosted by speed and steady all-around play that drove the Philadelphia Phillies to their first playoff berth in 14 years.

The Gold Glove shortstop received 16 of 32 first-place votes and finished with 353 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Holliday, who led Colorado's surprising charge to the World Series, was the runner-up with 11 first-place votes and 336 points. Milwaukee slugger Prince Fielder came in third, with five first-place votes and 284 points.

Rollins batted .296 with 30 homers, 94 RBI and 41 steals from the leadoff spot, helping Philadelphia rally from a big September deficit to win the NL East. He led the league in runs (139) and triples (20) -- and became the second consecutive Phillies player to win the MVP following Ryan Howard last year.

Rollins proved a prophet after saying in spring training that the Phillies were the team to beat in a competitive division.

Holliday, the NL Championship Series MVP, hit .340 with 137 RBI -- becoming the third player since 1967 to lead a league in both categories. He also had 36 homers and topped the NL in hits (216), total bases (386) and doubles (50).

I dont see a problem with it, NL was tough this year, it could have easily gone to any one of the three guys there.

Could have gone to either Rollins or Holliday. I'd have been fine with either. Jimmy had a damn good year.. even though I personally David Wright is pretty damn deserving.

Rollins wasn't even the best player in his own infield.

Pujols should have won it last year. Two years in a row for the Phillies. Can they break the Giants streak of 00-04?

Re: Jimmy Rollins = NL MVP

Before people go all crazy about how Holliday or Fielder got robbed. Name a player who produced this type of season:

    .291 BA (wasn't great), 212 H, 139 R, 38 2B, 20 3B, 30 HR, 94 RBIs, 41 for 47 in SBs. Played solid defense (for those who argued Tulo over Braun in the ROY).

Sure Howard had a powerful season (47 HRs, 136 RBIs) but he hit a dismal .268 for the season. Utley would have had a monster year if he played the WHOLE SEASON. Rollins played all 162 games at SS this season and accounted of 50% of all the teams TRIPLES.

MSL: St Louis Cardinals 2013-present (2734-2936 regular season, 5 division titles, 2 championships)
    TSSL: Seattle Mariners 2006-2029, Pittsburgh Pirates 2030-present (209-277, 5 division titles w/SEA, 1 championship w/SEA)

Pretty sure Rollins hit .296. Holliday led the NL in hits, BA and RBI.

I think another reason why voters gave Rollins an edge over Holliday is by there home/away splits.
H R HR RBI AVG OBP SLUG OPS
    Rollins away 108 70 12 47 .293 .352 .507 .859

    Rollins Home 104 69 18 47 .300 .336 .536 .892

    Holliday Away 93 53 11 55 .301 .374 .485 .859

    Holiday home 123 67 25 82 .376 .435 .722 1.027

I like the choice, like it's already been said it could have went to any one of three guys and been fair. I think Rollins was the most deserving though, just because he plays a more demanding position than Holliday. Rollins is the leader of that Phillies offense, not Howard. I'm not knocking Howard, he's a very good player, as is Chase Utley, but J Roll is what ignites that offense and played stellar D also. I like the choice, but wouldn't have had a complaint with Holliday either.
