After being kept out of Alex Rodriguez's negotiations with the Yankees, agent Scott Boras now is being dropped by another client.
Free agent pitcher Kenny Rogers informed major league teams Friday that he will represent himself in contract talks after dismissing Boras, according to a report on MLB.com. No reason was given by Rogers.
Rogers, 43, has said that if he comes back to play, he wants to do so with the Tigers, for whom he has pitched since 2006. The Tigers have made contract offers to the left-hander through Boras, but they have been declined.
Rogers went 17-8 with a 3.84 ERA in 2006 in Detroit, but was just 3-4 with a 4.43 ERA in an injury-riddled 2007. He is 210-143 with a 4.19 ERA in his 19-year career. In addition to the Tigers, he has pitched for the Rangers, Yankees, A's and Twins.
