St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Josh Hancock has been killed in a car accident, the team says.
The Cardinals-Cubs game scheduled for Sunday night has been postponed. The Cardinals said they were told of the 29-year-old reliever's death by the St. Louis Police Department. The team said the accident happened in St. Louis, but no other details were disclosed.

    Re: Cards' Josh Hancock dead.

A vehicle driven by the 29-year-old Hancock apparently struck a truck that was assisting a disabled vehicle, team spokesman Brian Bartow said. The Cardinals and police were expected to make a statement later in the day at Busch Stadium.
Holy shit...this is just horrible. I am stunned and tragically saddened by this news.

Ah, give me something clever to say here.

    Re: Cards' Josh Hancock dead.

Three days before his death, the Cardinals got a scare that some teammates said reminded them of Kile's death -- Hancock overslept and showed up late for a day game in St. Louis. Hancock told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he thought the starting time was later and didn't get up until the "20th call" from anxious teammates.
    Wow...freaky.

Sad situation. It is always harder to accept a loss like that when it is unexpected. My prayers and thoughts go out to the Hancock family and the Cardinal's organization.

Family comes first, then baseball. Hancock and Cardinals please take the necessary time to grieve this unfortunate situation and be with each other and support each other.

Baseball has lost a good guy. Josh Hancock was either a teammate or opponent of nearly everyone in the game. In the words of Ramon Ortiz, who was a teammate of Hancock's with the Reds in 2005, "He was a good teammate, friend and a great guy".
    May he rest in peace.

It's a shame that just about the only thing we knew about him is that he played professional baseball. I suppose that is why the first thing that teammates of the fallen will almost always say is that "he was a great guy."

    RIP Josh Hancock

    Sad news.

I will fondly remember his time with the Reds, and even though didn't always get it done, he always seemed to work hard to get better and pitched some solid games.

I am proud to say I was at his last game he pitched in and that in St. Louis you could feel shock everywhere you went. It was the first thing the guy at the hotel said when we were checking out. It was kind of an eerie feeling pretty much everywhere you went. It was just a shame his last game was to eat innings in a blowout. He was a valuable guy last year and helped his team get to a WS. A least he will go out as a winner. RIP Mr. Hancock.
