I could've swore Randy was a Cy Young caliber pitcher when he was in Seattle. Could it *gasp* be that he's *gasp* getting old instead of *gasp* the AL being "a clearly better league?"
Nah, what am I thinking.

Randy Johnson went from a 2.60 ERA to a 3.79 ERA from '04 to '05- do you think in the offseason of '04-'05 he all of a sudden lost it?Originally Posted by GiantsFan83

you are missing the point, it's not that the AL is vastly superior this year. It's EVERY year the AL has better lineups b/c thye have a DH hit rather than the pitcher. If you don't think it's harder to pitch in the AL than NL I have to question whether or not yuo actually follow MLB.Originally Posted by Witlon

Randy Johnson only twice had sub 3 ERAs in the AL while in 6 years w/ Ari he had one yr of +3 ERA. In '98 w/ Sea he had a 4.33 ERA then was traded to Hou and posted a 1.28 ERA the rest of the way.
it's not about whether or not it's easier to pitch in the NL than in the AL. Obviously, it is. It's about where a pitcher ranks in the league compared to his peers.
Looshius brought up the point that Arroyo was above average in the AL (when compared to all other AL pitchers). But when he moved to the NL, Arroyo became a top-5 pitcher. It's not about his numbers but rather how he ranks in that league.
It is going to be a nail bitter decision this year for the NL's Cy Young, just like everything is going to be except Giardi as Manager of the Year... If I had to guess today, I would say Carpenter. He doesn't have a high amount of wins, but low E.RA and he is the pitcher on probably the NL Central Champs team... So, by putting all of that together, Carpenter-Cy Young..
Johnson is 05 had many problems including a groin injury.
Clemens was completely healthy in '03 then was significantly better in Houston the next year.Originally Posted by love_that_reefer
Clemens won how CY Youngs in the AL? Dude we all get your point, the DH is gay.
No mention of Tim Hudson and/or Mark Mulder coming over to the NL and crapping their beds after dominating the AL?
hudson won more games and had a lower ERA in '05 w/ Atl than he did in '04 w/ Oak. Mulder lowered his ERA by almost a full run from his last year in oak to his first year in SL.Originally Posted by DirtyKash

That being said, any pitcher who switches leagues is going to have a distinct advantage over the hitters he faces the first year in the new league regardless of which direction he goes.Originally Posted by nyjunc
This is due to the majority of the hitters in his new league having practically zero experience facing the guy.
Mulder and Hudson have both sucked this year, something they NEVER did in Oakland.

Yeah, after some more time, I've seen Webb, he's been consistent as far as I've read. My deal is not to give it to Carpenter. I just haven't seen the domination, he started slow, so Yup, it's BWebb.
Again people, I feel many of us are contradicting ourselves.. Isn't being the best pticher on a PLAYOFF team suppose to have more meaning... Carpenter is their best pitcher, just like Webb, Zambrano, Oswalt, or else mentioned that is not going to the playoffs. Winning, making the post season, and being the teams best pticher should win the CY!
No, you're confusing "Cy Young" with "MVP"Originally Posted by brewersfan19

Cy Young simply means the best pitcher for the league that year, at least in my opinion.
