wins/losses (for pitchers)= most overated stat in sports

This thread has more to do with my pet peeve of the weight a lot of people put on the W/L stat and less to do with the Padres. I merely use examples from Padres games a lot because I watch a lot of Padres games. (I know that's hard to believe being a Padres fan and all, but go figure)

But, even despite that, I have made posts regarding non-Padres games/pitchers.

Today Jason Schmidt pitches 8 1/3 innings giving up only 1 run (I don't care if the run that Benitez allowed in gets charged to him) and will either come out with a loss or a no decision.

and today Felix Hernandez picks up a win despite giving up 7 ERs in 6 ip, 3 walks to 4 strikeouts.

7. One Pitch Wonder: Washington reliever Bill Bray made his major league debut on Saturday. Threw one pitch -- fastball, outside -- and Nationals catcher Brian Schneider pegged out Milwaukee's Corey Koskie attempting to steal second for the third out of the game.

And Bray got the win.

ERA is overrated as fuck, too. None of Mike MacDougal's inherited runners who have scored off him count toward his still miniscule ERA. He must be great!

I dont think its totally over-rated. How else would we place value on pitchers. Its the most referred to stats for pitchers.
