MLB.com: Penny has good start in camp; throws 70 pitches

PHOENIX -- Back at Dodgertown Friday, Brad Penny threw 70 pitches in a camp game and management was almost as happy as it will be when he makes his first game appearance against an opposing team.

That could come in as little as five days, assuming Penny and his rehabilitating right arm come out of the effort in good order. He not only threw 70 pitches, but recorded four outs in each of four innings with a maximum of 15 pitches per inning, finishing with a 10-pitch partial inning.

"We're hopeful that next time it will involve a game in the Florida State League," manager Jim Tracy said, referring to a Minor League rehabilitation assignment.
