Hanley Ramirez needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and will be out for two months.
Hanley injured the thumb Tuesday while diving for a ball near the third base bag in the World Baseball Classic championship game against Team Puerto Rico. The Dodgers didn't want him to play the hot corner at all in the event and are probably more than upset.

Look at the gif in that post. It's of the moment the injury accord. It's a freak accident that could have happened anywhere be in Arizona, WBC, and at any place, be it SS or 3rd.

Also, I never realized how terrible the left side of the infield is for the Dodgers without Hanley. Cruz, Harriston, Uribe, Gordon, AND NICK PUNTO.

Like others have said these guys can get injured in regular spring games, warm up or walking down their front stoop, no one walks around in a bubble wrap body cast. If the Dodgers (or any team) have to worry so much about losing anyone without at least a decent fill in any position the only one or thing to blame is themselves. If a guy is lost Opening Day they are in the same boat as any other time of the year. It may hinder plan A, but that's why you have back-ups, if they have no confidence in what they have why are they even there?

Because if back-ups (especially at shortstop, at the very bottom of the position scarcity barrel) were anything more than replacement level players, they would've been starters in the first place???

And it was only a year ago that Dee was locked in as the starting shortstop and leadoff hitter, so it's not as though he's been someone who served no purpose on the roster.

Cruz, Uribe, Gordon, and Punto is our ENTIRE infield in this game. Injuries are dropping this team like flies that even Hairston came out of the game after filling in at...first base.
