One scout's review of Nomo's work: "Ugly. ... Awful. ... He's done."

Another scout (for the Dodgers): "We'll take him!"


All right, so I made up the last one. But everything above that is true.

Well, well, it turns out that the second review wasn't completely fictitious. The Royals have signed Nomo.

He traded Dodger blue for Royal blue.

Maybe he will help out for a year. A band-aid, if you will.


As I have said in the past, I give the Royals credit, they are trying to develop in the minors, so they must be trying to find some veterans on the tail end of their careers to play and tutor/mentor the youngsters as they come up.

Through a translator of course. I also meant with the other verterans on the team as well (Grudz/Gullien(?)/Meche).

Nomo relies on his translator for press interviews. He was never an outgoing person anyway.

I know, he was a Brewer at one time. But I was just trying to make a point, or a possible observation about the Royals philosophy. I am probably wrong about my theory, but it was just meant as a thought.

I know, I'm just busting ya. Now, if you said the same thing about say, Jose Lima, I can buy into it. But Nomo is one of the last guys you can expect to provide "veteran leadership". I should add Jose Guillen, too.
