Royals Bad news for Soria, Royals

The Royals announced Monday that an MRI has shown damage in the ulnar collateral ligament of Joakim Soria's right elbow.
Bad news. While the immediate concern is the possibility of Tommy John surgery, the extent of the damage isn't yet known and the Royals didn't announce how they'll proceed. Assuming Soria ends up missing significant time, Greg Holland and Jonathan Broxton will become the favorites to close games for the Royals.
If Soria needs TJ surgery, this is a big blow for the Royals even after his poor 2011. Good thing the Royals have nothing but options for Soria after this year.

No update on this that I've seen, timetable wise, but the Royals have moved Aaron Crow back to the bullpen, so he'll likely be in the mix for save ops if Holland and Broxton don't pan out as expected.

I sure hope it's Holland and not Broxton.

Do they make mounds big enough for Broxton these days?

Just the news I needed to hear. Now I get to watch Broxton go perfect in save opportunities especially considering he won't have to shit his pants against the Phillies this year. Ugh.

Looks like it's going to be TJ Surgery for Soria.

*sigh* Yup, looks as though. Sucks for the Royals, Soria's been one of the few consistant bright spots over the last 5 years or so for them. Everyone aboard the Aaron Crow bandwagon. I'll clear some space for you.

What sucks is that the Royals don't really need an overpaid closer. If healthy they could have traded him as you know someone would have overpaid for a closer. Happens all time time.

In the current market, Soria wasn't overpaid. Hindsight tells you they should have traded him by now but his stock was low last year. Royals are just lucky they don't have him under contract anymore and have plenty of young arms in their system.

With Soria, it kind of got to the point where it didn't make sense. They had so many prospects that moving him probably wouldn't even have pushed the scale. It's a nice problem to have, but you have to have major league talent, too.

Broxton got his first save by getting out of a 1st & 2nd, nobody out jam by striking out the side. Because...of course he did.

Can't believe the Dodgers let him go.

Broxton hit 2 straight batters for a walk off hit by pitch!

Haha, that's the Broxton I know and love.

You can start a Broxton Fail thread in this forum if you'd like. That I wouldn't mind (even though I hate the word "fail")
