Yikes! Why is Hochevar being sent down over these guys? He had a 3.96 ERA this spring. Bannister really fell off after his decent '07 season. The Royals are in trouble at the back end.The Royals have named Sidney Ponson and Horacio Ramirez their fourth and fifth starters.
It's this kind of decision making that causes us to chuckle every time someone calls the Royals a sleeper candidate to take the AL Central. Ponson hasn't had an ERA under 5.00 since 2003, and he still qualifies as a better bet than Ramirez, whose name was grabbed out of a hat back in December when the Royals decides they absolutely, positively must have a left-handed starter. Brian Bannister will join Luke Hochevar in Triple-A.
