Astros claimed infielder Jose Castillo on outright waivers from the Giants.
Waived by the Marlins during spring training, Castillo hooked on with the Giants and hit .244/.290/.381 in 420 plate appearances before being cut loose last week. He's a marginal utility man at best.
Another unusual signing by Ed Wade. Randy Wolf, LaTroy Hawkins and now Jose Castillo. Castillo was not good at all for the Giants. He was very inconsistent both offensively and defensively. One night he would look like a Brooks Robinson and then he would look like Ryan Braun at third. He also GIDP way too much. Wolf and Hawkins have had success since moving to Houston so maybe this unusual move will pan out too.
