Ball gives Valverde scare, Valverde gives Team scare

Only recently did the God-like slugger known only as Pujols drive a liner off Chris Young's face, of the San Diego Padres (cue dramatic blood flow), that yet another pitcher took a sharp comebacker off the schnozz. Actually, it was more off the side of his face. Third baseman Pedro Feliz of the phillies hit a liner back to Jose Valverde, who managed to get the glove partially in the way but not entirely. In fact, it's easy to assume he might be headless if he wasn't able to get the glove up.

After a delay, Valverde stayed in the game. After the quick scare, Valverde decided to give Houston his own dose. With a 4-1 lead, Valves gave up 4 hits and 2 runs, including doubles to Rollins and Burrell. Valverde finally closed the door for his 15th save. (As of now, no reports of any damage sine he stayed in the game)

Before that, Brandon Backe went 7.1 innings strong, giving up just a run. The ugliest leadoff man in baseball, Michael Bourn, went 1/4 with an RBI. Hunter Pence hit a pair of solo shots. JR Towles raised his average to .155 ....go him, but uh, Brandon Backe raised his average to .278.
