    Stupid NY media trade idea

    http://www.newsday.com/sports/printe...y-sports-print

TAMPA, Fla. -- There is big trouble brewing 120 miles down I-75 in Fort Myers, where they're still waiting on Manny Ramirez. And even when Ramirez arrives (Wednesday supposedly is the magic day), he'll surely have one eye on the exit.

There's a little trouble surfacing here in Yankees camp, too, a little more trouble than the Yankees either know about or will admit to. Gary Sheffield has begun talking publicly about his contract, and although he's been quiet two straight days now, anyone who knows Sheffield knows full well we haven't heard the end of this.

Perhaps there's one crazy way that baseball's bitterest rivals can help themselves, and if they absolutely have to, help each other. Here's my fanciful idea: Trade one mixed-up malcontent straight-up for the other.
This has to be a joke...I mean, who would seriously consider this? Of course the Yankees might, but why on Earth would the Red Sox do that deal? Maybe if the the Yankees threw in a spect or two...oh wait

Don't listen to the NY media. I don't, and I don't get dumber from it.

When was the last time the Red Sox and Yankees pulled off a trade with each other? Like, Babe Ruth right?

It wasn't a major deal BUT Boston then turned around and got Pedro in a deal where Armas was the main chip. Had the Yanks held onto Armas Pedro would have been a Yankee.

Armas wasn't the main chip. He was the player to be named later in the deal. The Yankees back then would have needed a stud pitching prospect like Carl Pavano, whom Montreal demanded from Boston (because Boston refused to trade Brian Rose?), to trade for Pedro.

just to back you up a bit
Armas was included a month later after the trade to complete the deal

Don't know about the Rose thing though

The Expos had their choice between Brian Rose and Carl Pavano. Rose had the better stats in the minors for the previous season but Jim Beattie really coveted Pavano more. I recall one Red Sox fan saying that the Expos wanted Rose instead, but that likely isn't true since the Expos had their choice between the two and Pedro Martinez was the most coveted available ace.
