Phillies trade Vicente Padilla to Rangers

The Rangers have acquired pitcher Vicente Padilla from the Phillies in exchange for a player to be named later. Padilla needs to pass a physical exam before the trade is complete, ESPN.com reported.

Padilla is way overpaid and was probably going to be non-tendered. The Phils probably want to give Liriano a shot.

Ricardo Rodriguez wasn't a bad add, he was the Dodgers' top prospect just a few years ago, and should eventually be a solid lower-middle of the rotation starter, if he stays healthy. And they're saving 4-5 mill, so it's all good both ways.

Texas gets a solid #3 starter now, and doesn't have to make a long term committment.
Philly gets a potential #4-5 starter next year, and cuts 4-5 million.
