Mookie Betts traded to the Dodgers

Red Sox get Alex Verdugo and some pitching prospect from the Twins, the Twins get Kenta Maeda. Joc Pederson goes to the Angels in a separate deal to save money because we had to take on David Price and half his Raytarded contract, too.

Sure, this could end up bad if Verdugo is healthy and produces for the next 5 years and Betts walks after next year, but you could say the same about the Anthony Davis trade to L.A., and the Dodgers gave up arguably the equivalent of just one piece out of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and 3 first round picks?

So LAD lose Verdugo + Joc + Maeda + Ryu + Hill + Hernandez amongst others and replace them with Price + Betts... That's not improvement .. I dont even think thats breaking even.. I see that as a 3-5 Negatuve WAR net even with May and Urias getting more IP...

Is the WAR calculator that Henry is using to crunch these numbers the same one that he used to argue that Joey Luchessi, Eric Lauer, Matt Strahm, Dinelson Lamet, and Nick Margevicius were better than Kershaw, Maeda, Ryu, Hill, and May?

Can't wait for the story to develop that David Price is going to the Twins and Maeda is staying put so the Padres lemmings can say the Dodgers are stupid for paying for Price to play elsewhere and that Maeda isn't any better than Price.

Partly bummed because it's hard not to be when your favorite team is rumored to get someone like Mookie and doesn't get him.

That being said, we'd only have him this year and nobody guarantees a WS by themselves and we would have given up two strong prospects at least to make it happen.

I hope Henry is right about the Dodgers but I'm not buying it. They'll take the division. Hopefully we can sneak into a WC spot and then get hot at the right time.

Blockbuster update: Red Sox viewed Brusdar Graterol's medicals and "projected him more as a reliever than a starter," per @Ken_Rosenthal. Sox might ask for additional player or money.

Teams "confident the deal will be completed, but perhaps not in its original reported form."

I didn't know that "medicals" could discuss starter vs reliever projections. Besides, anybody could go to MLB.com and read that Graterol projects as a reliever but the Sox front office is just learning this information now?

Confirmed: Minnesota #Twins now pull out of Mookie Betts trade, as @LaVelleNeal first reported, leaving #Redsox and #Dodgers to complete trade themselves.

Aaand...this is why I never get excited about anything. Fuck Boston. They can watch a wantaway Mookie leave for nothing and continue to pay every cent of what's owed to David Price plus the luxury tax and absorb the penalties.

The Dodgers added Jeter Downs to go to Boston.

Madea to the Twins is now a separate deal with Graterol going to LA instead of Boston.

I assume Joc to the Angels is still on but I haven't heard anything.

Losing Jeter Downs sucks.

But even if Downs is the next Fernando Tatis Jr., essentially the Dodgers traded Matt Kemp, Kyle Farmer, Alex Verdugo, a year of Alex Wood and Yasiel Puig for Mookie Betts, David Price and Josiah Gray.
