Reports say the Nationals have traded "3-4" players for SP Doug Fister from Detroit.
Names I've seen mentioned so far (all rumors) Lombardozzi, Rendon, Storen, Clippard, Robbie Ray, Taylor Jordan

Rendon would further upgrade infield defense. Does Smyly move to the rotation then?
Wow. I don't understand this deal for Detroit at all. A cheap team-controlled sturdy starter for two maybe-decent pitching prospects and a utility man.
Washington Nationals @Nationals
The #Nats have acquired Doug Fister from the #Tigers in exchange for Steve Lombardozzi, Ian Krol & Robbie Ray
PS: Since I still know "someone" who works for the Nats' AAA team, his analysis of Krol and Ray for those of us unaware of who they are:
"Ray's a AA pitcher, could be good...Krol's a hard-throwing young LHP, decent, meathead."
i know they wanted to clear a rotation spot for smyly. that would put them at... verlander, scherzer, sanchez, porcello and smyly, right? or did they dump porcello somewhere too, i forget. this does kinda seem like a... lets take the first offer! type of move though.
They were clearing money to lock up scherzer to long term deal
That's all well and good, but they didn't have to take the very first offer to do it. They got very little of value. A mediocre utility man, a hard-throwing reliever and a AA SP.
Thought they cleared money by dumping Fielder
