Wowza, challenge trade.
Wowza, challenge trade.
montero and hector noesi for pineda and jose campos, a low-a starter.
Mini CC behind regular CC!
What the hell are the Mariners thinking? So instead of building around pitching they trade their #2 for a DH? That makes little to no sense to me! There are DH's on the free agent market. This is a move the M's are going to regret. Might as well trade Felix while you're at it!
They might believe that Pineda isn't going to maintain the type of success he's had and cashing out now to address other needs to make the team better. The M's (Porter could probably address this better) still have plenty of starting pitching behind the King, I would say this is the same as the Reds trading Yonder Alonso plus stuff for Latos. The M's are trading from a strength to address a weakness (offense). Was it smart? We shall see Pineda could go Travis Wood on the Yanks and be borderline bad.

"Oh, don't mind me, I'm rebuilding now" then you win at least 80 games

The M's have some good young pitching but by the time they will be ready, Felix will be gone. Right now, the M's have only Jason Vargas behind Felix. Not only did they trade Pineda but they traded Campos as well, their 5th best prospect. That's losing a lot of pitching to gain a DH.
We'll see how much of a hitter he is in a deadzone like Safeco. Plus, now he's on a crappy team after being on one of the best, time to see how motivated he is.
Sucks, hate to say, the Empire killed it today after being so quiet. Pineda and Kuroda just like that. Damn it.
Dont discount the flame out rate for young pitchers, and who knows how much Pineda was helped by Safeco. Safeco isnt that bad of a hitters park, they just have had a lot of bad hitters.
I still would take the Yankees side though.
Here's what I posted on my Facebook:
I don't hate the trade the Yankees made at all. Don't hate it. Love Montero, hate to see him go, but they did the right thing. However, why did we then sign Kuroda? All of a sudden we have too much pitching! We now have CC, Burnett, Hughes, Nova, Pineda, Kuroda, and Garcia. What the hell are we gonna do with that? Plus I thought they wanted to bring up Betances and/or Banuelos. Guess those guys got another year or two down in the minors. Really hope we don't trade them.
ill have more on this when i get back. i just read bout it.
You never have too much pitching, look at last year AJ struggled, Hughes got hurt and we scrambled all year to find the right pieces to plug those holes. Remember those dominant Yankee teams in the late 90's, all you heard going into the season was how the yanks only pitching problem was they have too much. I'll take that problem any day! Later in year if 5 starters hold up u deal one to plug a weak spot by someone having off year or injured.

they need the bat and they have some guys in the farm.
Should have traded Felix if they were serious about gaining some offense.
Or should have just stuck with the Cliff Lee to NYY deal!
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!
