This is huge signing when it happens, he'll be a great addition, could be a 5th starter when he's back in June. This also to me implies that Wakefield might be destined for the bullpen if Tek isn't back next year which would greatly improve the ball club. Good luck going from a 90 fastball to his knuckler in a matter of minutes.

I tend to agree reefer, I would love to see him setting up Papelbon in the 7th,8th innings.

I think he'll be a good 5 but if he isn't, we'll move him to set-up, its a good luxury to have

Buchholz won't be in the rotation, he'll be traded or in AAA, and wake in the pen if penny and smolts are healthy

Masterson in the pen or AAA? I see, just a lot of starters. This could be a good deal as well as long as he isn't too expensive. Smoltz will be out until mid May if I recall correctly. And Penny is still a bit of a risk coming of of injury as well. So, I guess its good having this kind of depth.

Yea, I think the pen... I still think he or buchholz will be traded for a young catcher at some point

it just doesn't seem right to me for Smoltz not to end his career with the Braves. I just can't picture him in a Red Sox uniform/
