CC SABATHIA PICKS YANKEES - New York Post

Welcome to New York CC. This is great news for Yankee fans, as now they can sit back, play Burnett, Sheets, and Lowe off each other, and get the rotation completed. That will be very interesting to watch develop, but I'm happy this waiting game is over. The best part about it is I know he made a very educated decision, so he saw something that at the very least there's no reason NOT to pick New York.

His new contract is 6 years, at least $140 million.

This is still pending a physical, and a few minor details.

So am I. CC is a team player, and is a spark plug, which is sometimes I feel exactly what the Yankees need. He's got that intensity I've been looking for on this team for a long time. I can't wait to see him in pinstripes on that mound.

I could care less about how he is as a person.

I do care that he threw 7 CGs and logs 230 IP and could win 20 in the BX

And now they have changed the story to them being "very close."

This is getting interesting. Finally a source other than the NY Post was cited, although anonymously

Some interesting points from the article:

LAS VEGAS -- The New York Yankees were "very close" to a preliminary agreement with CC Sabathia on Wednesday morning, following an in-person meeting between Yankees GM Brian Cashman and Sabathia in California, a baseball source with knowledge of the deal told ESPN.com.

While a deal is not done, the source said there are "zero major road blocks" that would prevent the Yankees from reaching agreement with the Yankees.

"He's now excited about becoming a Yankee," said one source.

The New York Post first reported Wednesday that Sabathia, the prize of this year's free agent class, had decided to go with the Yankees after fielding offers from a number of teams.

The terms of the deal are still being negotiated, and it's possible that the final deal will look different than the six year, $140 million contract that the Yankees initially dangled -- perhaps with another year in some form, perhaps with more salary.

Its as good as done. Congrats to the Yankees for getting the top prize in the free agent market as far as pitchers go I too am glad its over and now the rest of the free agent pieces will fall. The Yankees still have a lot to do but this is a big piece of the puzzle they have gotten. Great signing and the Brewers will now have to find their ace for next year. They will gladly take their draft picks but are pretty upset they couldn't retain Sabathia.
