marlins dealt them for emilio bonifacio and rhp pj dean. dont know who pj dean is, bonifacio is a speedy little 2b with no power at all that they got for jon rauch. seems like the marlins got the short end to me.

Interesting move to say the least. Looks like Uggla is either on his way to third or to another team. Maybe Bonifacio might get a shot at third since his defense is suspect at second base, just like Uggla. Dean is only 19 and had a good year at low A ball and struck out 34 in 46 IP. Smolinksi is also 19 and hit 22 HRs in A ball. Marlins are obviously in a constant holding mode. They aren't far off but they did clear room for Maybin in the OF.

For the Nats, they got an OF/1B with decent pop to help Zimmerman in the lineup and a back of the rotation starter in Olsen. But in the Nats case the back end rotation guy is an ave for this staff. Olsen is only 24 so he has room to really improve. Nats can easily toss Kearns or Dukes out the door but more Kearns than Dukes. For now it looks like a steal but when you trade two talented 19 year olds, who knows?

I read on Foxsports the Nationals are looking to make an offer to Tex, wouldn't surprise me if they got in on Dempster or Sheets either, maybe they are trying to build a real team?

Teixeira and Dunn want to go to contenders so the Nats are out. Sheets I could see because I know Bowden is dumb enough to give him more years than anyone should. I can see them getting someone like Burrell, Abreu or Bradley.

Dukes is a hot head and also injury prone, Kearns OPS reads like the falling economy since he was dealt to Washington and .....wow this is such a stupid move by Florida. Really, they're buyers this offseason? Buyers of what, retardification?

Well, that ought to make all the closet Marlins fans here shut up about how they are destined to win it all again this year just because their last two happened to occur in six year intervals.

It's not a great deal, but they're only losing 15 homeruns from a mediocre defensive catcher/outfielder and Sanchez and Johnson return, so losing Olsen also isn't that bad. Neither were going to be THE reason if Florida becomes a contender.
