I think the Yankees have to start getting younger but do like Cameron over Cabrera for a year. Cabrera can go back to being a 4th OFer where he belongs. I have no doubt the Brewers will decline his option. The Yankees should look at this because who wouldn't like to have 25 homers coming from the 7th or 8th slot in the lineup who plays good defense. I still need think the Yankees need to get younger and faster but Cameron could be a good one year fix until some younger guys emerge. Willie Taveras would be appealing if I were Cashman. The New York Post reports that the Yankees plan to pursue Mike Cameron if the Brewers decline his $10 million option for 2009.
"I am not going to tell you that's right or not," general manager Brian Cashman said. "We are going to do whatever to make the team better, that's the bottom line." Cameron has long been among the game's most underrated players and would be worth a one-year, $10 million commitment from Milwaukee after hitting .243/.331/.477 with 25 homers and strong defense in center field this season.
