NASHVILLE CONFIDENTIAL: Tigers set to acquire Cabrera, Willis from Tigers

The Tigers and Marlins are hammering out the final details on an eight-player trade that would send third baseman Miguel Cabrera and left-handed starter Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for a left-hander Andrew Miller, outfielder Cameron Maybin and four other prospects.

Wow! Talk about a blockbuster! Detroit had previously deemed both those guys untouchable, let alone trading both in the same deal...now I want to see another confirmation here but this just comes out of nowhere!

ESPN is reporting it right now!! The Detroit Tigers now have the best lineup ever on paper!! Polanco, Granderson, Cabrera, Sheffield, Ordonez, Guillen, Renteria, Rodriguez and Jones/Thames would be their starting nine. Willis would join Verlander, Bonderman, Rogers, Robertson and Durbin. The Tigers are now set to overtake the Indians in the Central. Plus, they are likely to get something for Inge.

The Marlins get a CFer for the future which they desperately needed and a left handed starter not to mention four other prospects. Maybin is going to be a stud! A 6-1 deal is the way to go for Cabrera.

Just this offseason, the Tigers have added Cabrera, Willis, Renteria, Jacque Jones and then Denny Bautista. Quite the offseason and its not even over.

i wanna see the other 4 prospects... but as good as maybin and miller are/will become, tremendous move by dombrowski. plus their park is huge, so willis should bring his numbers back down, and itll look even better for them. props to detroit for making the move... and props to florida for not being iffy about it, and pulling the trigger. maybin, hanley ramirez and andrew miller are a nice core for the future.

Eh, I've seen better on paper. Damon, Jeter, Abreu, A-Rod, Sheffield, Giambi, Matsui, Posada, Cano. Paper is only worth so much though, as that group proved.

ESPN's Peter Gammons says catcher Mike Rabelo is one of six players the Marlins will get in return for Miguel Cabrera.
The remaining three players will all be prospects, according to Gammons. Rabelo did a capable job of filling in with Vance Wilson hurt last year, but he's little more than a backup. If the Marlins are thinking about pairing him with Matt Treanor, they'll have one of the game's weakest catching duos.

Marlins are addressing their need for a catcher and seem to be getting one that can hit for somewhere around a .260 BA with no power.

not the way its constructed. This is about the most they could get for both of those players. They were going to lose both of them after 2008 anyways, so you may as well get loads of talent in return. Miller is a stud, and Maybin is as well. plus 4 prospects.
