No deal is done yet for Guillen. Jones had talks with the Royals last night.
From Trent Rosecran's Blog:
Whoa. Ken Rosenthal is reporting the Tigers and Marlins are talking about a deal that would sent not only Miguel Cabrera to Detroit, but also Dontrelle Willis. Wow.
From Rosenthal:
The Marlins and Tigers are engaged in preliminary talks about a blockbuster that would send Cabrera and left-hander Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for a package of young players, according to major-league sources.
Outfielder Cameron Maybin and left-hander Andrew Miller likely are among the Marlins' targets. The Tigers already feature two veteran left-handed starters, Kenny Rogers and Nate Robertson, possibly making Miller available in a deal for Willis.
This came out of nowhere, the Tigers are already a stron team and they are making a huge splash this offseason. Already trading for Renteria, now possible getting one of the best 3B in the game and a quality SP (may be on the down side of his career)? They still have a great future in young SP even if Miller is traded.
This could be awesome for both teams. It makes me wonder what the Reds are doing as well as they have equal young talent to the Tigers.
At your service. The Nationals have reportedly picked up Tyler Clippard from the Yankees for Jonathan Albaladejo.
Makes a lot of sense for both teams. Clippard is a better bet in the NL than he ever would have been in the AL and could prove to be a third or fourth starter for the Nationals. Albaladejo, meanwhile, showed a lot of promise as a reliever both in Triple-A and in a late-season callup. We just hope the Yankees use him better than they did Chris Britton.
Yeah, it was on Rotoworld somewhere.
It hasn't been confirmed yet but it got picked up by several sources.
Royals got screwed in the Dotel-Davies trade so this would make up for it.The Kansas City Star believes the Braves are offering Chuck James to the Royals for David DeJesus.
It's a pretty good offer if true, though James would likely lose quite a bit following a league change. If the Royals trade DeJesus, they could then offer Andruw Jones a one- or two-year deal. They could also look at Corey Patterson and Kenny Lofton as short-term options. The Rangers are also believed to be interested in DeJesus.
Bedard, Penny, Lowe, Billingsley and Schmidt cause fear in the NL West. If that's all they have to give up, great deal for the Dodgers. The Orioles and Dodgers may be close on a deal that will send left-hander Erik Bedard to Los Angeles, a baseball source said. The O's are in need of a center fielder and a closer who can play at the major league level, and the Dogders seem willing to part with outfielder Matt Kemp and reliever Jonathan Broxton, who could come in a close in lieu of Chris Ray, out for the year after Tommy John surgery. "They want Bedard bad," said the source.
Wow.
As for the Clippard deal, that sucks.
I think Tyler could have converted to a top notch releiver.
How is Abaladsfdsnfsdhflknf,jdlkf McKain?
More on the Tigers/Marlins talks:
12:30 p.m., from Peter Gammons
• The Tigers and Marlins have had preliminary talks about a blockbuster trade -- Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for a package of young players that reportedly could include outfielder Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller -- but Florida GM Larry Beinfest needs a lot more and doesn't think it's serious.
Big news on three big players.ESPN's Peter Gammons says the Angels and Marlins have resumed serious talks regarding Miguel Cabrera and that a deal is within reach.
Perhaps the Angels' flirtation with the Twins, just like that of the Marlins with the Tigers, was a negotiating tactic to jumpstart talks. The two sides have seemed to be relatively close to a deal since the Angels agreed to part with Howie Kendrick. The Marlins could also get Nick Adenhart, Jeff Mathis and one more player. It sounds like the fourth player is more likely to be a prospect than it is Reggie Willits.
According to ESPN's Peter Gammons, the Red Sox and Twins are close to finalizing a Johan Santana trade after Boston added Ryan Kalish to the mix.
Gammons says it'd be a 5-for-1, and with Kalish in the deal, it only makes sense that the Twins would be taking Jon Lester, Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson. If Jacoby Ellsbury was involved, the Twins probably wouldn't be asking for the additional center field prospect. Like Lowrie and Masterson, Kalish ranks comfortably among Boston's top 10 prospects. He is much further away from the majors than the others.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review believes the Pirates and Indians are no longer actively discussing a Jason Bay trade.
There were reports about Cliff Lee and Kelly Shoppach perhaps going to Pittsburgh for Bay. Jeremy Sowers and Andy Marte also could have been candidate to be involved in a deal. There's also not believed to be much going with talks between the Pirates and Rangers regarding Bay. If the left fielder is dealt, it probably won't happen this week.
