No shock here. I think the script says that the Cubs will sign Prior to a one year deal in a week.

Kerry Wood's one-year deal with the Cubs is worth $4.2 million.
It also contains $3.45 million in performance bonuses, based largely on games finished. "He threw tremendously well the last couple weeks of the season and certainly should go to camp with a great opportunity to pitch late in the game," GM Jim Hendry said.

What in the hell is going on here? His contract could be worth nearly $8 mil and for what? What role is he going to be playing ? Closer? Starter? Middle reliever?

well, dempster is moving into the rotation. so the closer spot is up for grabs. i think its between him and bob howry with marmol getting the 7th and 8th inning roles again.
