Just heard Michael Kay on YES report that ESPNEWS reports that the Yanks and Phillies have a tentative agreement to send Abreu and Cory Lidle to NYY.

cj henry and steven white are what im hearing is heading to philly
edit... jayson stark says henry and matt smith... works for me.
Just what the Boss likes, overpaid aging veteran outfielders.

he'll be fine with the short porch in left... hes got 25 doubles in philly, some of them will get turned into homers in new york. plus it means sheffield isnt back in 07... addition by subtraction.
Nice for the Phillies because Yankees take on Abreus and Lidles contracts but did the Phillies even get anything in return? No Hughes?
Yankees might have made off like bandits with this deal.

Im not the Genius that traded for Brandon McCarthy. And my name is certainly not John Gibbons...
Citizens Bank is a bandbox, so I don't think he'll get any added HRs in Yankee Stadium.
Still a good move for the Skanks, none-the-less.

Great deal for the Yanks - picking up two very nice pieces for... basically nothing. Depends on what the third prospect expected to be included is, though.
Apparently the third prospect will come from an agreed upon list. More than likely, that list won't include anyone of note.

How did this ever pass trade council?
According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Phillies will get SS C.J. Henry, LHP Matt Smith, C Jesus Sanchez and RHP Carlos Monasterio from the Yankees for Bobby Abreu and Cory Lidle.
Quantity over quality. Pat Gillick may fool some fans by picking up the additional prospects, but he's really getting just a quality shortstop prospect and a lefty specialist in return for a superstar outfielder and a decent starter. Henry, a 2005 first-round pick, hasn't even put up decent results yet. He's hitting .237/.326/.350 in the South Atlantic League.

Then out of fairness to the others you will be Slagathor.
Musta been that Wayne Hage special sauce that masked this deal.
Lidle still doesn't solve their pitching woes.
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

What pitching woes? The pitching is not great but woes is a bit strong. we have a 1-2-3 at the top of the rotation that not many teams can say they are better, we have some pen issues but we still have the best closer in baseball history back there. The yanks are 6th in ERA in the AL, sure we've had a few bad losses but the puitching has been alot better than people think.Originally Posted by Kingdom_of_Zito
how the hell do the yanks get stars for prospects?
1-2-3 is stretching it. It's more like 1-2. There are plenty of pitchers in baseball better than Randy Johnson, almost everyone in fact.Originally Posted by nyjunc
Yanks definitely have pitching issues; when you cycle through starters such as Sidney Ponson, Shawn Chacon, Kris Wilson, Aaron Small, etc., then you have issues.
