Dodgers acquired infielder Wilson Betemit from the Braves for RHP Danys Baez and infielder Willy Aybar.
The upgrade from Aybar to Betemit is well worth two months of Baez, especially for a Dodgers team that seems further from contention with each passing day. Betemit will likely take over as the regular third baseman for the rest of the season. Cesar Izturis can move to second base as a replacement for Jeff Kent for now or become trade bait. Betemit should be a very good play in NL-only leagues while being used as a regular, and even if he switches positions next year, he'll be a fixture in the lineup for several seasons. I guess when you have the luxory of having a setup man who's prolly actually better than your closer, you can say that. Braves needed pen help, regardless of what happens at 3B.
Marshall: MILSWANCAs?
Ted: Wait, I can get this. Mothers I'd like to sleep with and never call again.
Barney: Circle gets the square!

I wouldn't exactly call Baez pen help.
I'd more label him pen wrecking crew.
The Braves just made their pen worse....and gave up Betimit to do it.

The fact that Renteria, Giles and Chipper are signed for a few more years make this deal doable. Aybar isn't that bad of a young talent, either. I think the deal works well for both teams.
The Dodgers could've traded Baez to the Braves for a bag of peanuts and a paper clip and I still would call it a dumb move on the Braves' part.

With how poorly the Braves' bullpen has been, solid should be an understatement.Originally Posted by HollywoodLeo

All four hits were singles and he was caught stealing in the game, but it was an encouraging debut. The Braves' hit Aybar leadoff today, followed by Marcus Giles, Edgar Renteria, Andruw Jones, Jeff Francoeur, Brian McCann, Matt Diaz, and Adam LaRoche. Since Aybar entered the game just 1-for-15 against left-handers on the season, it was quite the surprise to see him batting leadoff versus Tom Glavine. His value would increase a good deal if he continues to bat atop the order with Chipper Jones out. Make sure he's owned in all NL-only formats.
