Is there anything that tells you their abilities other than the color system for their overall and talent?

As drop dead fred said. There's player pages like OOTP generic sites. Click on any player in anyone's team. You'll also get stat history, awards, etc similar to OOTP stuff. It'll also give you attribute ratings in number form, so instead of a player being loyal, you'll see like a 85 rating or a 6 or whatever

They are? My teams have won 24, and 34 my first 2 full seasons. I think I have a borderline playoff team at best, but more than likely will be out again.

You nearly made the playoffs starting a 2nd round rookie and Jud Beuchler at PG part of the time. Someone has to be the 7th and 8th seeds in the east (sounds so realistic lol), you nearly got there with two guys an now you have actual PGs and players around your two guys.

Even if you made playoffs with a losing record, you're picking in the middle of draft, maybe a little lower cause the West depth is even worse. And the drafts fall off after the lottery, sometimes even sooner depending on the year (2000 is gonna suck buckets)

I mean I've seen worse but I guess that's ok. I still think you will potentially exceed your own expectations by a fair amount. I'm gonna be worse, Toronto is due for a decline at some point, Indiana will have a much worse lineup now, NY has done nothing but add a couple of solid rookies, Miami and Atlanta should pose no threat for different reasons and i dunno what Phillys strategy is. I think you have a good chance at making a nice jump tbh
