Mississippi State doesn't have to go through Alabama to win the National Championship.
Sure, losing this game would make things harder on them but they can still make the playoffs with a loss here and if they don't get matched up against Alabama in the playoffs and Bama loses their matchup then they can win the NCG without going through them.

if bama rolls miss state here, id think it would be pretty tough for them to make the playoffs. they would pretty much need oregon, arizona state, baylor, tcu and ohio state to lose again. or alabama to lose again before the sec championship. id say miss state has to win the sec to make the playoffs, with a loss here.
on the other hand though... if miss state can get in here, they get the ball to start the 2nd half too.

Even if they lose and then win out, including beating Ole Miss, their resume is better than anything the big ten or big 12 can offer. Ole Miss didn't drop much after their first loss. I think it would be the same for Miss State
