Because the past doesn't always dictate the future.

Did the Colts going one and done after a 14-2 season in 2005 prevent them from winning the SB in 2006?

Did the Steelers getting bumped after a 15-1 season in 2004 prevent them from winning it in 2005?

And before you tell me I'm comparing this year's Chargers to any of them save it. I'm not even saying the Chargers will win it this year. I'm just saying not winning it two years ago doesn't make it a given they won't win it this year.
