    Tigers Tigers sign Fielder to a 9 year deal!

    The Tigers have agreed to sign Prince Fielder to a nine-year, $214MM contract Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports on Twitter. The agreement will keep Fielder in the Motor City through his age 36 season for an average annual value of $23.78MM.

    The 27-year-old first baseman will join Miguel Cabrera in the middle of the Tigers' order to create more than enough offense to make up for the loss of Victor Martinez.

    Though the market for Fielder seemed far from robust at times this offseason agent Scott Boras has found an unexpected suitor once again. Yahoo's Tim Brown first reported that the sides were close to a deal.
    Leo, I am prepared to eat as much crow as possible because I never thought for a second the Tigers were this dumb!! WOW! Talk about your all-time desperation move. Now Cabrera and Fielder will be a beastly 3-4 combo but I thought the Tigers should have focused more on starting pitching than DH. Looks like V-Mart's day as a Tiger are over.

    I'm still..shocked. This is like one of those bad OOTP deals that certain people give out.

    Guess I am in the minority thinking this is an awesome move and deal for Prince, I was amazed it took so long for a deal to be done with him anywhere.

    I don't think anybody thinks it's a bad deal for Prince. I think some think it's a bad deal for the Tigers.

    Sorry, wasn‘t specific enough…… awesome move (by Tigers)AND deal (Prince)..I consider a move to be done by a team not the player.


    I think this is HUGE for the Tigers. I got so excited I bought a tix in Lakeland, was leaving that venue off my ST list since I have gone there 2 years in a row. Word of advice never reach for your credit card in a state of baseball euphoria!

    Matt Kemp's contract is looking even better after the ass raping of the Angels and Tigers by Pujols and Fielder.

    Oh wait, here comes love_that_reefer to remind me that Matt Kemp is the next Vernon Wells because he's also a black dude who plays centerfield and got a nine-figure contract.
