Tigers V-Mart likely done for year!!

Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez suffered a torn ACL during his offseason training and will likely need surgery to repair the damage.

An MRI exam Monday in Lakeland, Fla., revealed the injury.

The Tigers said Martinez will be re-evaluated next week, but if surgery is necessary Martinez will likely miss the entire 2012 season.

Martinez hit .330 with 103 RBIs last season in helping Detroit win the AL Central.
Huge blow for the Tigers! V-Mart was their main DH but did help catch and play some 1B to help spell Cabrera and keep him fresh. Tigers are losing a very productive bat but should still be favored to win the Central. It will be interesting to see how they fill the void.

Could see a panic trade happen here, or maybe a crazy FA offer.

Definitely agree Foster. I bet the Tigers wished this was learned of maybe a month or two ago when some of the high value, short term contract options, ala Beltran, was still on the market.

Prince to Detroit is almost a given now.

Plenty of DH's still left on the market for Detroit. I could see a return of Damon.

I don't see Prince to Detroit at all. I could see Maggs coming in with an incentive-laden contract that has a base of $3MM and could pay him up to $10MM.

You read my mind Leo, crazy to think, but I am sure it won't happen.

Even if Detroit could afford Prince, they wouldn't be dumb enough to give him a deal. V-Mart is only out for one year.

Done. Now send Turner ++ please and thanks.

Kinda funny. I actually discussed packaging the two yesterday. Makes some sense. Move Young to DH and Byrd will put up great defensive and average offensive numbers.

Tigers aren't that desperate, especially with capable DH's on the market.

Is Fielder not a capable DH?

It's not like being stuck with Fielder would be that bad of a deal anyway.
