Tigers were smart not to go all in on Ubaldo Jimenez and they got the cheaper Fister who is already familiar with AL hitters. Fister is not a strikeout guy but he's got good stuff and is still learning how to pitch. He's a good 4th starter for the Tigers and its made their rotation deeper. Getting Pauley in a career season is a bonus for the Tigers who did need relief help as well. The Tigers give the M's Casper Wells who is 27 and has had some success at the MLB level. Martinez is a 20 yr old who needs to develop patience at the plate. Furbush can step in right away for the M's. Good trade for both teams but this really helps the Tigers taking the Central.SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Tigers have completed a deal for the Mariners' Doug Fister.
They'll also get David Pauley, with the Mariners acquiring Charlie Furbush, Casper Wells and third base prospect Francisco Martinez. Fister boasts a 3.33 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 21 starts this season for the Mariners and will be arbitration-eligible for the first time over the winter. Pauley is in the midst of a career season, posting a 2.15 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over 39 games.
