MLB suspended designated hitter Gary Sheffield three games for his actions in Thursday's game.
Sheffield threw a piece of his broken bat in the general direction of home plate umpire Greg Gibson after hitting a grounder. He immediately appealed the suspension, so he'll remain in the lineup for now. Once he's forced to serve the penalty, the Tigers will give his at-bats to Marcus Thames.
I cannot believe they think he tried to throw at the umpire. Anyone who saw this can see this was not the case. Sheffield should win this appeal. Sheffield has been ripping tits lately and had a helluva May.
