Jason Young was awarded the top signing bonus in Rockies history because he was expected someday to become a fixture in Colorado's starting rotation.
Now, his future is in Cleveland.
Young was claimed off waivers Wednesday by the Indians, ending a tumultuous, injury-plagued, five- season tenure in the Rockies organization.
Selected in the second round (47th overall) of the 2000 draft, Young was given a team-record $2.75 million signing bonus but made only five starts and 10 appearances with the Rockies. He had spent this season with Class AAA Colorado Springs.
"We had gone through some September call-up issues and he wasn't going to be a guy we called up," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "We made a difficult decision because, obviously, he is a guy we invested a lot of money into, but we just felt it was a point in time that it was best for him to go somewhere else."
Meh. Another player who didn't turn out. I'm sure he will in Cleveland though!
