Homestand starts with Helton hurting

If the Rockies aren't cursed this year, they are at the very least a very unlucky ballclub.

Just when things were looking so fine for them Monday night in their rain-delayed, 5-3 victory over the New York Mets at Coors Field, veteran first baseman Todd Helton, the Rockies' one true star, pulled up lame.

In the bottom of the seventh, after slugging his third hit in the opener of a seven-game homestand, Helton had to limp his way between second and third base. The Rockies immediately removed him from the game, and he needed help getting down the dugout steps. After the game, Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said Helton had a strained left calf.

Helton's injury came just days after pitcher Jason Jennings was lost for the season after breaking a finger on his right hand.

Helton's injury spoiled a wonderful start by pitcher Jose Acevedo. Stepping out of his role as a Rockies reliever, and making his first start since Sept. 26 when he was with Cincinnati, Acevedo acquitted himself quite well, outdueling the Mets' Tom Glavine, who took the loss.

Hah. Acevedo did good after Mission said he would suck . I'm sure karma is coming back now after that.

Uhh Helton injured = sucks. Meh. Stupid injuries.
