Rockies De la Rosa is Dunzo!

Jorge De La Rosa will have Tommy John surgery soon to repair a completely torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.
We assumed Tommy John was in De La Rosa's future, and now it's official. The Rockies and De La Rosa will meet Wednesday to discuss a date for the procedure, but since he has limited swelling, it's likely to occur soon. He'll miss the remainder of the 2011 season and be sidelined well into 2012, as well. Greg Reynolds will start on Saturday, with Jhoulys Chacin moving up a day to start Sunday in De La Rosa's place. Aaron Cook should be ready to assume the spot after that.
It was a terrible contract the Rockies gave Jorge but that seems to be their MO here lately. Jorge has only once pitched over 180 innings but that didn't stop the Rockies from giving $33 million for three years. He has always had injury after injury so the Rockies are used to pitching without him. It is a blow to their team but not as big as some might think.

They will have to rely even more on there offense. Tulo has to have another month or two like he had at the end of 2010.

As a fan of the team, I'm going to say that I am GLAD that the team is finally putting $ at their good players (Tulo, Car Go, De La Rosa) instead of letting them walk away or trading them away, which was a the M.O. for years and years. I don't think De La Rosa's contract is that out of control.

In any case, crappy break for the Rockies and a serious blow to our season.

Scary thought. What offense? Except for the rare spurt (like today's first game against the D-backs), they have had serious issues offensively.

They do have the possibility for a great offense if they play up to expectations. Tulo, Car-Go lead the way. I also really like this guy Seth Smith. Dexter Fowler has more in him as well. Helton needs to get healthy and back on the field. The guy I am really disappointed in is Stewart because he has so much potential.

Re: De la Rosa is Dunzo!

Troy Renck of the Denver Post writes that Jorge De La Rosa is "well ahead of schedule" in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
Good news, but since De La Rosa underwent the procedure in June, he won't be a factor until the early part of the 2012 season. The 30-year-old southpaw went 5-2 with a 3.51 ERA over 10 starts prior to the surgery. The Rockies owe him $10 million next season.
    Good news for whoever cares

Jorge De La Rosa (elbow) will be shut down through September and is doubtful to return this year.
Another big blow for a battered Rockies rotation. De La Rosa underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery a full 12 months ago, but he hasn't recovered as swiftly as most. The 31-year-old left-hander has already experienced two setbacks.
The Rockies pitching is in terrible shape and looks like it's not going to get much better this year. That 4 man rotation is quite hilarious.
