If Ian Stewart is the real deal why keep Atkins around to block him?
That's the beauty of a strong farm system.
Naturally, it's a gamble, though, but that's what you gotta do when you're not a big market club.

That is true. Especially if you can get some high dividens in return.
Forgot about that, thanks Hollywood!
Welcome to the of the week there brewersfan! DUH!!
I'm not too convinced with Ian Stewart. He is a lil lax with the glove and it didn't seem like he was too ready for a Major League curve. This will mostly be fixed by the time spring training ends I would guess. There's two reasons I wouldn't be too happy about getting rid of Atkins. #1 He's one of my personal favorites because he has somewhat of the same batting stance I used to (weird I know) and because they are having Stewart try second base at the Instructional league (they've said they are going to try and bring Matsui back but his back is suspect) It's not a particular bad situation to be in unless Ian simply doesn't perform at this level.
I remember the two Ians, Stewart and Kennedy, back when their HS team went 25-1 or some shit like that. It sucked that we were paired against them, the top seed, in the first round of the playoffs.
I really hope they would re sign Atkins an make sure Stewart can hack it in the bigs as a reserve first. Maybe sign Atkins to a one year deal?
My biggest beef with the Rockies is how they have let talented players go after their first contract. Well, now with the success of the team and the stands being full again hopefully for next season, they will put that money into the team to resign and extend players.
That's my hope, anyway.
It is good to have high hopes for the team you love and bleed their colors. I hope your Rockies open their wallets too!! Keep the faith.
