Vinny Castilla took a break from preparing for the final month of his career to talk some baseball with his Rockies teammates. It was like old times, Castilla holding court and teammates laughing. Also pounding his fist into a glove and sharing in the glee was Castilla's 10-year-old son, Vinicio Jr.
The scene has occurred often over Castilla's long career, the best nine seasons of which were in a Rockies uniform. It'll happen a few more times. Castilla, 39, will be activated for Friday night's road game against the Dodgers. He'll serve as a pinch-hitter and backup at third base and first base.
More important, Castilla, dreams of continuing to be the center of more such scenes someday as a Major League manager.
