I suppose those rotary phones in Vermont do take a while to get us news, but this is a good one. A brawl, 3 suspensions, 22 others fined, first brawl in the 12 year history of the team. I'll just give an excerpt from the article.
The incident began in the third inning after Martinez threw one pitch behind Van Slyke and had a 2-0 count when he hit the Cardinal batter in the right arm. Van Slyke, who had hit a two-run homer off Martinez in the first inning, charged the mound. Martinez stood his ground and flipped Van Slyke to the ground when he tried to tackle the pitcher.
When Van Slyke charged the mound, Poppert threw his catcher's mask and hit him in the back. Ochoa came in from the bullpen to join in the fray, which lasted a few seconds.
God Bless Vermont!
