Minor League outfielder Josh Sale has been suspended 50 games without pay after a second failed test for a drugs. He had been currently playing for the Class A Charlotte Stone Crabs. This is his third suspension but the second for violation of the league drug program. The other incident for conduct detrimental to the organization after posting on Facebook about an incident where he threw quarters at a stripper.

In my view this is three strikes and you are OUT, he should be released immediately.

Just a personal aside though, maybe it's because I am female but I don't see much difference between bragging about a night out at a strip club and those that flaunt porn stars on their arms.......but maybe that's just me.

I agree with you in general principle with the "three strikes" thing, except one of his "strikes" is a stupid Facebook incident that I agree with Trendy that is stupid to suspend someone over.

Well, that was the cliff notes version, sorry, I guess I should have elaborated more.


It was more WHAT he said (it was also on Instagram which I heard was worse than what he said on FB, I'm not sure about Twitter) which led to questions about the incident which led to the press investigating which led to them and team finding out about his conduct there. He caused a ruckus getting kicked out and so forth which falls under the not involving yourself in "conduct detrimental to organization" clause. I would bet the Rays and the local media was more on about it because of the scuffle with the bouncers and being kicked out then that he was in a strip club in the first place. Also, this incident happened after he had just barely finished the first suspension for methamphetamine and amphetamines. Thing is, those are all social media sites and unless you make everything private it is out there. The Rays have made a point in recent years to encourage fans to follow the players on these sites. So, if they start saying unsavory things (in this case it was viewed as "sexist") in public, its bad PR.


There are a couple players I have wondered about whether they were punished or even dealt due to things that have occurred through social media or off field conduct. Most recent, Josh Lueke, when he was brought back up earlier in the season the ranting on the Rays sites blew up about them having a "rapist" on the field, the 25 people at the games booed and heckled him. He was out of options, but with the rants every time he got in a game, his innings started getting fewer and fewer, they finally designated him but he accepted and he is still in the minors.

I mean you can say "what difference does it make?" but look at what happened to Sterling, he said racists things in the privacy of his own home, but because people heard it on a recording the NBA banned him for life and he became the bigotry poster boy. This is stuff these guys are saying in public, now is it not as "bad" because the slurs are against another gender instead of another race???? I'm just saying.

Now, what if it had been "N" or "F" for a sexual orientation slur or had included a swastika symbol? It probably would've gotten more attention, though he is a minor league player so it stayed pretty much local.

Maybe if they had been doubloons, but it was quarters which I am thinking was meant as an insult to the "performer". Sounds like his "making it rain" didn't even amount to a drizzle.

It is a matter of opinion, but the word itself is derogatory to women in general. However, if they are, then what are guys that go see them??? Doesn't that comment from a guy that was a customer seem a bit hypocritical?

Hoe is a universal term. Both males and females can be them.

I really don't see how it's derogatory to women. Guys call girls hoes/sluts/bitches. Girls call guys dicks/assholes/pricks. We take no offense. Ya'll shouldn't either.

Again, I guess it is a matter of opinion. However, what people might call another in private is one thing. I doubt if someone with any kind of a name went on a Twitter or FB rant using a bunch of them that it wouldn't come back to bite them.
