I doubt that they renegotiated Rolen's contract for Chapman if thats what you mean. But that is the excuse many media types are using right now.

They aren't the front runners as the Jays are right now. Then it looks like the Angels are still pursuing bigtime. Then we can't forget that the Yanks and Red Sox are able to let the small market teams make their offer, then swoop in and offer a few million more and voila game over for small market fans.

I think this is far from over. Maybe not on a time fram (this could be done by tomorrow), but I believe there are so many options, that any teams in the running are exhausting many hours on their chances.
