A's took Rickie Weeks's brother Jemile, heh. Rickie got the better first name.

Doesn't have the power of his brother, solid defensively, makes the routine plays, 5'9, 180 similar to Delino DeShields.

I hope the Brewers pick up a lot of pitching and a catcher for the future.

Brett Wallace 3B from Arizona State went to St. Louis.

Aaron Hicks, OF/RHP from a California high school goes to Minnesota - comparable to Darryl Strawberry, good tools, also with a great fastball - tremendous makeup, great arm

Dodgers take some RHP/3B dude from a Georgia high school named Ethan Martin. He also plays quarterback in football. No scouting report on this guy.

Brewers take Brett Lawrie, a CANADIAN infielder/catcher from Brookswood, committed to Arizona State.

He's played with wood bats, impressive in workouts, one of the better bats in the draft, 6', 190 lbs, comparable to Craig Biggio. He's already hit doubles off Luke Hochevar and Kyle Davies and went 21-for-30 on the latest road trip with the Canadian team.

The "experts" say he hits off his front foot, which means he won't be a power hitter unless they change his swing in the minors. Also, if the Brewers make him a catcher, then they have gotten one of the big necessities to develop covered in this pick.

Bud Selig looks completely disinterested. He's got his hands in his pockets and is sounding as monotonous as ever.

Mariners just took Josh Fields RHP from Georgia. Bullpen guy potentially if he doesn't have the stamina, but has a power curveball. Keith Law says he's surprised with this pick but he should make it to the majors quickly.

That is Selig for ya' Mr. Excitement!

Has anyone else noticed the number of firstbasemans taken in the first round.

Tigers take Ryan Perry RHP from Arizona, he has a Brad Lidge-type slider, big power arm, huge fastball.

The Mets are up again? And then it's the Padres, nice.

Reese Havens, SS, South Carolina to the Mets. Could move to 2B or OF, 6'1, 195.

Steve Phillips says: "This guy is a baseball player". Thanks for the awesome scouting report.

Padres take Allan Dykstra, 1B, from Wake Forest who got taken by the Red Sox three years ago but went unsigned

6'5, 240 lbs, raw power, hits the ball a long way, questions about his approach, dives into the plate, vulnerability inside.

Daniel Schlereth LHP from Arizona gets picked by Arizona at #26. He's a decent sized 6'0, 210 lbs. and is Mark Schlereth's son.

    Re: Draft play-by-play

It is utterly ridiculous that some teams received a compensatory first round pick for losing Scott Linebrink, David Riske, Pedro Feliz, Ron Mahay, Trever Miller, Jason Kendall, etc.
