Indians signed SS Adam Everett to a minor league contract.
Evertt hit just .185/.221/.247 over 81 at-bats for Detroit last season before getting released and taking the rest of the year off. Although not as good as he used to be, Everett is still pretty slick with the leather. He will compete for a bench spot.

Everett's got the glove and Asdrubal Cabrera did have an injury plagued season so it makes sense. Carmona has been reportedly been put on the trading block so that could possibly bring in some good pieces. Indians are definitely having a quiet offseason. I think they might sign Jake Taylor and Roger Dorn next.

Indians signed OF Austin Kearns to a one-year, $1.3 million contract.
Kearns, 30, posted a .263/.351/.395 batting line across 461 plate appearances for the Indians and Yankees this past year. Now he's back in Cleveland, where he will likely serve in a left field platoon.

Indians signed OF Travis Buck to a minor league contract.
The A's former No. 1 prospect never reached expectations in Oakland and was non-tendered earlier this winter after qualifying for Super Two status. He's 27 and has just a .250/.330/.424 batting line over 587 career at-bats, and injuries have been a problem, as well. But, Buck still has some ability and we like it as a low-risk move from the Tribe. He'll compete for a bench job in spring training.

Kearns is a good platoon guy who still plays good defense but can't stay healthy enough to be an everyday guy. Buck on a minor league deal isn't bad at all. Good low risk, low cost deals for the the rebuilding Indians.

Those signings are pitiful for a franchise that used to spend money to have an All Star at every position.

Indians acquired RHP Joe Martinez from the Pirates for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
He was designated for assignment by the Pirates before the holidays. Martinez, who turns 28 in February, has a 6.16 ERA and 28/21 K/BB ratio over 49 2/3 major league innings with Pittsburgh and San Francisco. He'll likely serve as insurance for the major league rotation and bullpen with Triple-A Columbus.
