Cabrera getting a 2nd chance at ST

Detroit -- Fernando Cabrera said he wouldn't need 15 days to recover from his bruised right heel, and he was right.

Cabrera started a rehabilitation assignment at Class AAA Buffalo on Monday. He went on the disabled list Saturday to make room for Fausto Carmona. Seattle's Jeremy Reed hit Cabrera in the heel with a line drive last Thursday at Jacobs Field.

Now that Cabrera is on rehab, he can have the spring training he never had in February and March.

Cabrera missed three weeks of camp while pitching for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic. Cabrera saved a game in the WBC, but it was evident when he rejoined the Indians in late March that he'd missed the day-to-day work and instruction necessary for a young pitcher.

His struggles carried over into the regular season, but the Indians were in a jam.

They couldn't send him to Buffalo without exposing him to waivers because he's out of options. Reed's line drive gave them another way around the problem.
I never heard of this guy. Is he any good? Will he be in the bullpen when he gets healthy?

Also, read down in the article about Graves. Thought it was interesting.

Rumors are he may be the guy to take over for Wickman as the closer after this year. That is,if he shows he can play at this level.

So he will be coming up into the bullpen when he gets healthy? I'd like to see him pitch when the Indians played the Tigers next time.
