I think both Pauly/Gardner are to pitch in the doubleheader tonight.

    Chattanooga Lookouts

    Manager: Jayhawk Owens (2nd season)

    Last season: 87-53 (Eastern Division)

    Affiliation: Cincinnati Reds

Players to watch: The Lookouts have two highly-touted pitchers in right-handers Richie Gardner and Thomas Pauly. Gardner is No. 3 and Thomas No. 6 in Baseball America's Reds' top-prospect list.

Gardner, a sixth-round pick by the Reds in the 2003 draft out of Arizona, has scouts raving of his ability to change speeds. In 11 starts last year for Chattanooga, he was 5-2 with a 2.56 ERA.

Pauly was picked up in the third round of the 2003 draft from Princeton. A classic strikeout pitcher, he whiffed 135 batters in just over 121 innings in Single-A last year.

    BJ Szymanski:

This talented ’04 draft class was led by yet another Princeton product, B.J. Szymanski, who hit .362 with a .610 slugging percentage his junior year before being drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the second round (48th overall). Szymanski, who came to Princeton mainly as a football player, has the kind of athleticism that scouts crave.

“Szymanski was a star in our league,” said Columbia head coach Paul Fernandes attests via email. “He could be a five tool player [in the major leagues]. He can run, hit for average and power, play defense, and throw. The thing I remember most about him was he went from first to third as well as anyone I’d seen and when he hit the ball it left the infield more quickly than the average player.”

    Thomas Pauly:

Thomas Pauly led the Class A Carolina League in strikeouts in the 2004 season and will look to continue his development in Double A ball. He seems to stand the best chance of any of the current Ivy minor leaguers to make it to the next level.

“Pauly was lights out as a [pitcher] in our league,” says Fernandes. “He threw hard, was a low 3/4 guy who was difficult to hit ... If he stays healthy I think he has major league ability.”

Go Rob Strat! Thats awesome. He is racking and has to have O'Brien raise his eyebrows soon. At least I hope soon. If not he could be raising other eyebrows in baseball, and those eyebrows could attract a phone call that should again raise O'Brien's eyebrows. We'll see, but Stratton is doing awesome and I applaud him right now.
