New Red Travis Wood is just flat out dominating. He posted 3 2/3 of no run ball today.

To date he has thrown 11 and 2/3 innings, 19 strikeouts, 1 walk, 4 hits and no runs. Small sample obviously, but it's nice to see these kind of results from anyone in our system.

Ok, sweet! was he our second round pick? I know I will be looking out for him. Also, It should be good for all of us to take a closer look at our minor league affiliates. A lot of these guys will be wearing a Reds uniform one day. I hope to get more involved in these teams to see where are young studs are at.

I took a look at all of our pitchers in the minor leagues to see what we have making their way to the big time. Here are the pitchers that have stood out this season.

    AAA:
    Booker- 2.30 ERA / 43 IP / 59 K! / 20 BB / 13 SV
    Ramirez (Lizard)- 3.11 ERA / 75 IP / 46 K / 9 BB!

    AA:
    Basham- 1.00 ERA / 9 IP / 9K / 1 BB
    Hall- 2.25 ERA / 56 IP / 45 K / 14 BB
    Nelson- 3.68 ERA / 44 IP / 48 K! / 14 BB / 10 SV

    A:
    Guevara- 2.02 ERA / 35 IP / 45 K! / 12 BB / 6 SV

    ROOKIE:
    Travis Wood- 0.00 ERA! / 11 IP / 19 K! / 1 BB! / 4 H!

    Not so good:
    Richie Gardner- 5.72 ERA / 56 IP / 42 K / 19 BB / 73 H!
    Homer Bailey- 4.20 ERA / 64 IP / 74 K! / 40 BB! / 52 H!

And what ever happened to Thomas Pauly?

Anyway, looks like we have some talented players looking to make their mark. These are the names I am going to look for during the rest of the season.

I agree that Bailey is on the edge of being good or not quite there yet. 1 game could change the whole stat line right now. If he gets that ERA down a little more, and that WHIP down a little bit, then I would be sold on him. Right now, he is in rookie ball and if we want him to be good, he must dominate the lower level. But he is still young and getting his feet well, at least he is doing that well.

Can someone please remind me once again why Chris Booker isn't up?

Two of the Reds' top pitching prospects , righthanders Chris Gruler and Thomas Pauley, had shoulder surgery. Gruler, a 2002 first-round pick, had a procedure to clean out and loosen the shoulder joint; he had surgery in 2003 to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff. Pauley, a second-rounder in 2003, also had a procedure to clean up the shoulder joint. Pauley went 8-7, 2.97 last year at high Class A Potomac and led the Carolina League with 135 strikeouts in 121 innings.
